Learn to speak Norwegian with confidence

Do you want to speak Norwegian accurately and fluently? Our courses give you the opportunity to put your speaking into practice with Norwegian teachers and international classmates. 

Alfaskolen offers a safe and inclusive learning environment to help you improve your Norwegian and achieve your ambitions.

This conversation course uses texts and situations that are representative of Norwegian culture and daily life. The teachers will review and explain vocabulary and provide linguistic tips for different situations. Topics vary on each course, so you can sign up based on the level you have completed and start at any time. 

Conversation Course A2

At each session in the Conversation course A2, you will discuss different areas or topics concerning life in Norway. Subjects are based on day-to-day tasks and experiences such as family life, shopping, arranging travel, making appointments, going to the doctor’s office, and communicating in the workplace.

Some of the topics you will review: nouns, pronouns, adjectives, determiners, verbs and participles.

After completing the course, you will improve your conversational ability, pronunciation, and sentence structure in common situations. This course is especially helpful for those who have difficulties with spoken Norwegian. 

Conversation Course B1

During this course you will practice your Norwegian through conversation and discussion training, working with more complex themes than in the A2 Norwegian conversation course.

These sessions are structured, interactive and you will receive useful guidance from our experienced and qualified teachers. You will work on pronunciation, vocabulary, and idioms in order to develop your conversational abilities.

Throughout the course you will gain:

• a more advanced vocabulary
• methods of expressing yourself in different contexts
• a more appropriate and nuanced language
• improved sentence structure

Conversation Course B2 – C1

When you take the Norwegian conversation course B2 – C1, you will be covering certain topics which will take you from an intermediate Norwegian speaker to an advanced one. During the course, you will learn to understand the main ideas of a complex conversation, both on concrete and abstract topics. These topics can include technical discussions in your field of specialization, as well as in your areas of interest. You will also be able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity with little to no problems.

Regular interaction with native speakers will become normal to you and you will be able to hold a conversation without strain from either party.

The Conversation Course B2 – C1 will teach you to:

• Understand the main ideas of complex conversations on both concrete and abstract topics
• Interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity
• Produce clear and detailed sentences on a wide range of subjects

Choose what best fits you

Alfaskolen is an officially recognized provider of tuition base on the current curriculum for Norwegian language training for adult immigrants. Hours undertaken in our Norwegian courses are approved by UDI in applications for a permanent residence permit.

You can complete this level as a whole (16 meetings), or break it up into 2 sets of 8 meetings or 4 sets of 4 meetings. Each session consists of 2 lesson hours. Each lesson hour lasts 45 minutes.

You can choose to attend our meetings at our school in Oslo or via Zoom. Certified, experienced native or native like speaking teachers for one-on-one or group classes.

Course Certificate

At the end of the Conversation course, if you complete 80% or more of the course’s content, you will receive an official digital course certificate. 

Public holidays

Sessions that per regular schedule fall on a Norwegian public holiday, will be rescheduled to take place on a Friday.
